Last night marked the 33rd Annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards honouring the outstanding achievements and contributions of the past theatrical season. The hardworking volunteers of the Jessies Society put together a celebration worthy of the Vancouver theatre community. The evening was sponsored by The Georgia Straight and hosted, as always, by the Vancouver Theatre Sports League at the historic Commodore Ballroom.
Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners of the evening including Dean Paul Gibson and Alessandro Juliani, who won for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role–Large Theatre and Outstanding Sound Design and Original Composition–Large Theatre respectively for their work on the Arts Club’s production of Saint Joan. Other Arts Clubbers recognized at this year’s awards were Dr. Stanley Hamilton of our Council of Governors who received the Patron of the Arts Award, our lead carpenter Lorraine West who was given the Colin Campbell Award for Excellence in Technical Theatre, and LEAP Assistant and actress Christine Quintana who received the Sydney Risk Prize for Outstanding Original Script by an Emerging Playwright for Selfie.
